Wash and Wear questions

My student/child has paint and/or glue on their clothing. What should I do?

If paint is on clothing try and tackle the situation while it is still wet. It should be noted that regardless of the state of the paint, wet or dry some of the colourant may remain even after washing. If the paint is wet do not rub the area as this can increase the size of the spill. If possible carefully remove the excess paint then under cold water try and rinse as much of the paint off. Try and wash the clothing as soon as practicable, if this is not for some time then try and keep the spot wet or at least moist. If the paint is dry then soaking the area in water will help to soften the paint film. When soft do not rub the area, rather rinse the item under running cold water before washing.

If glue is on clothing ideally washing the garment straight away would be best. However, as this is unlikely to be possible, not allowing the glue to dry by keeping the area wet would be the next best thing. If the glue is dry soak the area in water to allow the film to soften then rinse the clothing under running cold water before washing.

My student/child has spilt paint on the floor, what should I do?

Where possible wipe the spilled paint as soon as possible. Staining may occur depending on porosity of the material the paint is on. If the paint has dried it can either be scraped off or place a damp cloth over it to help soften it so as it can be wiped up or scraped off. The longer the paint is left the greater the risk of staining.

My student/child has glue on their hands, what should I do?

Our glue products are water based. Rinsing of the hands under running cold water will remove the glue. Use soap if available.

My student/child has swallowed paint, what should I do?

Give plenty of water to drink and seek medical advice. There is a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) for our products here. They are also found on each relevant product page.
